Summarising stories.

We have been summarising interesting stories from newspapers.  We liked the stories about an icecap meltdown, Mahe Drysdale an Olympian, Lydia Koe who's a fifteen year old golfing champion, Hurricane Isaac and the first man on the moon.  Summarising is when you read something, then retell it in your own words.  The summary has to be shorter than the text.  Jayden felt good about his summary because it was a fun thing to do.  Shravin enjoyed reading the newspaper, then getting to write about it.  Katarina thought it was good to learn something new about reading.   Matthew thought our next step may be to summarise a longer story in fewer words letting our reader know why the key words held the key to understanding the story.

Mahe Drysdale was deciding on his future when he got back to New Zealand.  He could retire or go to the next Olympics in Rio after his big victory win in London! By Isabelle and Kaleea.

Chris Boyd doesn't want any All Blacks to play against Hawkes Bay.  Savea and Vito had a lot of trouble practicing with not so many All Blacks.  Luckily there were four All Blacks and not two.  By Matthew C and Brey.
