Innovating on Narrative

This morning we did some teamwork with the Year 5 children.  We're getting to know one another better so we can make a really effective Senior Team in 2013!
We listened to Margaret Mahy's story,   A Villain's Night Out.  We visualised and illustrated scenes from the story and wrote character descriptions.  The we worked with a buddy to write a new ending for the story.

It was lots of fun to work co-operatively on these tasks.  We built friendships with people we wouldn't usually get to work with.  We also got to share the narrative writing skills and sentence construction knowledge we've been working on this term!

Becoming Cashletes

PT, our personal trainer, taught us about money and how to save it.  Cashletes start saving young and train regularly.
Debit cards and credit cards are different because the debit card only lets you take out the money you have in the bank.  EFTPOS sends a message to the bank, telling them how much money you want to spend.  They if you have enough money on your cash card you can get it- otherwide it will refuse the sale.  A cash card only lets you spend your own money.  You can only get out what you put in.  They can be used anywhere you use a computer.
PT taught us heaps about money.... Currency is the different types of money from different countries.  Each country has different images on their money which represent their famous people and culture.  Remember to SPEND SOME ON YOU BUT SAVE SOME TOO!

Diwali Festival

Diwali is the New Year Festival of Light in India.  We have been learning about Diwali because its an important celebration for the Indian families at our school.
Food, dancing, music and costumes are all important parts of Diwali.  We eat popadom, curry, wadda, roti and Indian sweets.  People wear sparkly, emerald, sapphire, amber and ruby-coloured saris and servani clothes.  Maneet's dad will be playing drums, keyboard and congo.  Abel and Shravin will be dancing up a storm on stage.
Come to our school assembly tomorrow at 9.30am to see the festival dancers performing for us!

"What did you do at school today?"

What an amazing day we've had today....
We were part of the Great New Zealand Shake Out at 9.26am on 26/9!  Wh all followed the Drop, Cover, Hold routine, keeping safe under desks until we had an "all clear" to go outside.  We found it so much easier to check that everyone was safe when we got into our Class Roll order.  It was interesting to think about the parts that worked well for us and what we would like to improve on for next time.
The Bully No More show was about bullying and we talked about the reasons why some people bully others.  We have some excellent strategies for dealing with bullying behaviour that we don't want in our class or school.
